One unusual thing happening for me is that we have a one-week Fall Break. My school district has revised the year’s calendar to move toward year-round schooling, and part of that is to have several shorter breaks rather than only the major winter, spring and summer breaks. I plan to use the time off for fall garden chores. We’ve had our first frost, so I need to collect any more tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers and then start removing the plants.
I also have a planting box where things I plant never seem to thrive. There must be something amiss. I plan to empty the soil and remove any plastic or fabric liners that might be leaching chemicals into the soil. Next spring, I’ll line it with bare cardboard to prevent any more chemical leaching, and fill it with completely fresh soil.
Of course, I will also be revising across the break week. I’m finding as I work on chapters 2 and 3 that I often repeat certain information. It’s as if I was reminding myself while drafting that Revel Breed is a powerful mage and he owns everything around the lake. That’s a pretty easy fix. I’m also working to deepen the characters and themes — now that I know what they are.
Have a great week, everyone!
Have you read one of my books? Then it would be great for you to leave a review! Meanwhile, if you’d like to learn more about me and my work, check out my blog, Wyrmflight, or follow me on Bluesky.
Revision can be fun in that you can see where things can be better. Enjoy the garden chores and good luck with that errant planting box. 🙂
Thank you! It seems like I must have put in some weed-and-feel instead of plain planting soil, so plants would sprout but then stop developing. Next time, planting soil only!
